Some work from early manuscripts were almost microscopic.  The design that inspired this sculpture was featured as a full stop, or period, at the bottom of a page.  It was achieved by the monks holding a drop of water on a piece of horn close to their eye, inking in the fine work with a single badger hair.  Inspired by 8th century Illuminated Gospels.
